EUR credit 70'000

The NGO Burkina Vert in Ouahigouya in the north of the country supervises several market gardening production associations bringing together several hundred members, the majority of whom are women.

Project description

The NGO Burkina Vert was created in 1995 to supervise the dynamics of market gardening production groups in the northern region of Burkina Faso and implement projects relating to food security, strengthening resilience, soil recovery or environmental protection. It supports its members, small potato producers, by pre-financing seeds purchase and marketing its production. Production is not limited to potatoes and includes other market gardening products. COVID and growing insecurity have seriously disrupted the production and flow of goods. This situation led the NGO to not be able to honor the repayments of the Philea credit planned as it couldn’t purchase seeds in 2020.

Challenges & perspectives

Burkina Vert’s priority is to maintain production and generate income to gradually meet its deadlines. In the mid-term, the NGO must strengthen its internal organization and wishes to build a cold room to store its production. In October 2023, Burkina Vert will benefit from support from Swiss cooperation to carry out an institutional audit and an action plan.
